Has Agriculture Ended in Turkey?

The Point Turkey Has Reached in Animal Husbandry

The most talked-about topics in our country recently are production, agriculture, animal husbandry, and import-export. It is evident that we have fallen into a situation where we import many products, from potatoes to onions, from abroad. This truly shows that agriculture has ended and serious measures must be taken. Yes, millions of people in the villages are producing for themselves in their own gardens, fields, and farms. However, because this is in very small quantities, it not only does not reflect positively on the country's economy but is also insufficient for the Turkish market. Every day, farmers meticulously follow news and developments in agriculture, food, and health. This is because all developments in agriculture closely affect the food and health sectors. Genetically modified agricultural products are seen as harbingers of serious illnesses for human health.

First, We Need to Provide Incentives for Production

Serious problems are experienced in animal husbandry, as well as in agriculture, in our country. Falling from an exporting country to an importing country in animal husbandry is a truly unfortunate development. That is, we do not produce ourselves and instead buy at a higher price from foreign countries. If the money spent on this were invested in domestic production, the problem would be solved at its root. When incentives for production are provided, farmers and young people will work with all their might in this field. No one finds it appealing to work in a job where the costs outweigh the returns. The Ministry of Agriculture can achieve short-term results in this regard through grant and support programs it implements. According to TurkStat data, the growth figures in agriculture are half the growth in the economy. In this situation, we see that the share of agriculture is decreasing.
